FreeCell strategy
FreeCell is almost pure skill, so a few habits win far more deals than instinct does. None of this is complicated — it is mostly about looking before you move.
Six habits that win deals
- Find the aces and twos first, and plan the moves that free them before you touch anything else.
- Keep free cells empty. A card parked in a cell is a card doing nothing — put it back on the tableau as soon as it fits.
- An empty column is worth more than a free cell. It can hold a card, start a new run, or double how many cards you can move at once.
- Do not send a card up too early if it could still catch a card on the tableau. The auto-play only lifts cards that are safe for a reason.
- Work on the longest and most tangled column early, while you still have cells and space to unpick it.
- Look at the whole board before the first move. FreeCell is solved in your head; the clicks just carry out the plan.
Think in whole lines
The players who clear almost every deal are not faster — they plan further. Before moving, trace where a buried card needs to end up and what has to shift to get it there. If a line dead-ends, undo and try another; nothing is lost by exploring.
